In the US, today is Father's Day, a day set aside to honor fatherhood and the men who play a significant role in our lives, whether actively present, distant or even passed on. Our relationship with our fathers can be complex, good, bad or a mix of both. These relationships shape who we are and influence how we perceive and live our lives. For many, father's Day can be bittersweet, upsetting or even filled with grief. This is where the power of affirmations can truly heal and uplift us. They can help cultivate forgiveness, gratitude, mend emotional wounds and foster a sense of well-being within ourselves and our relationships that surround us. Let's use these affirmations to not only release any lingering pain or resentment, but also to empower ourselves to move forward with grace and compassion. Hello and welcome to the Mindful Life Changes podcast, where we dive deep into the challenges and transformations shaping our lives, from shifts in our roles at home and work to the transitions we navigate physically and mentally as we gracefully age. I'm your host, valerie Mechie, a career change guide and mindfulness enthusiast. In today's episode, we'll explore ways to find peace, acceptance and grace in our relationships with our fathers. It's no coincidence that I've chosen Father's Day. It's no coincidence that I've chosen Father's Day, a day that can bring up a whirlwind of emotions like guilt, sadness, anger and even joy, to share my very first ever affirmation practice focused on healing.
Speaker 1:I've personally experienced a range of emotions leading up to Father's Day. I don't think we talk enough about how our relationships with our parents can change drastically as we age and how those changes can affect us deeply. Whether you're grieving the loss of a parent or recovering from a strained relationship, navigating the complexity of our relationships with our father at midlife can be incredibly challenging. For me, this stage is bittersweet. While seeing our parents grow old is inevitable, witnessing them face health challenges can fundamentally change the dynamic between parent and child. I've experienced days when my father is vulnerable and loving, and others when physical challenges or pain becomes so unbearable that his personality changes into someone I barely recognize. These moments can trigger a sense of mourning for the person he used to be, while simultaneously forcing me to accept the shifting personality that comes with aging.
Speaker 1:As jarring as it can be to see your father in a different light as I have, or to cope with the unimaginable loss of a loved one or work through past hurts, one way to aid the healing process is to accept the present moment as it has unfolded and send thoughts of love or forgiveness to your father. Meditating on and reciting affirmations of love and compassion and forgiveness is a powerful way to let go and allow the healing process to begin for yourself. So, for today's mindfulness practice, I will start by reciting affirmations that you can repeat out loud, sending love and healing energy to your father. This will be followed by powerful I am statements to help you on your journey of transformation and healing. Words of affirmation are powerful tools that can help shift your mindset and perspective, even if it feels challenging at first. So make sure you give yourself some grace. Before we begin, let's take a deep and cleansing breath in and out, letting go of any negative energy or thoughts that do not serve you. I'll recite the affirmation and give you a moment to repeat it out loud to yourself, sending positive energy to your father. So let's begin. I wish you peace, I wish you healing, I wish you happiness. I forgive you, I accept you, I remember the good times. I am grateful for you. I am grateful for you.
Speaker 1:Now I'll share a series of empowering I am affirmations that declare resilience, growth and compassion. As I recite each one, repeat it out loud to yourself, allowing the words to sink in and resonate deeply within you. So let's begin. I am embracing change and releasing the past with love. I am strong and capable of healing. I'm resilient and adaptable, finding peace through compassion. I am worthy of love. I am cultivating inner peace and learning to let go. I am open to new ways of understanding and connecting with my father. I am finding light and love within myself, even in difficult times. I am healing and growing stronger every day. I am healing and growing stronger every day.
Speaker 1:Now visualize one of these I am statements and repeat it out loud to yourself again. Imagine yourself living out the statement in action in full color. I'll give you a moment to visualize this. When you're ready, slowly open your eyes if you had them closed and if it feels comfortable to you, place your hand over your heart to help seal in this affirmation. Practice with self-love and care and care. These affirmations are yours to recite and practice for at least 21 days, once a day. They're most effective before going to bed at night or in the morning before you start your day. There's no better way to develop a healthy habit than setting yourself up for success.
Speaker 1:Subscribe to this podcast and bookmark this episode so you'll have it handy whenever you need a quick guide to this affirmation practice. To help deepen your affirmation practice, consider making your affirmations sticky this is an acronym to make your affirmations more sustainable and effective. You can refer back to episode one for more information on this method. Write down the affirmation that resonates with you on a sticky note and place it on your bathroom mirror or laptop as a daily reminder of your commitment to your healing journey. Or transform it into a mantra and repeat it out loud while going for a walk, doing yoga or working out, or try reciting it in front of a mirror to deepen your affirmation practice.
